More than 650 Students Showcase News Reporting and Language Skills at Annual Competition
Last Updated: 30 May 2025
This year, 652 students from 60 secondary schools participated in the fourth edition of the Young Reporter News Challenge (《我来报新闻》挑战赛). Jointly organised by the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning, MediaCorp 8world and Speak Mandarin Campaign, with support from the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language, the competition aims to develop students' interest and ability to communicate and present in Mandarin, as well as their media literacy skills.
2 Ms Jasmin Lau, Minister of State for 91传媒, presented awards to 27 winning teams at the Awards Ceremony. Two new awards, the Best Young Reporter Award and Most Active Participation School Award, were introduced this year to recognise students' outstanding performance and active participation in this competition. Please refer to the Annex for the list of winning teams. Entries by the finalists can be found at .
3 Participants competed in one of the two categories: "Fresh News" and "News Bites 90". For "Fresh News", students were required to present an original news report of 1 to 2 minutes, while "News Bites 90" stretched students' creativity by challenging them to produce a 90-second news content that incorporated SG60 elements in a fun but factually accurate manner.
4 Following the competition, participants can look forward to a workshop in July 2025 to learn ways to refine news content, and a media camp in November 2025 to further improve their news and media literacy skills.
